New year kicks off with a blast

A fine way to blow away the new year cobwebs as all the teams met up on a fine January afternoon. PFFC’s regular keeper Rob, suffering from a ‘chipped bone’ in his elbow when falling off his bike on the Blackfriars Road, started outfield and Miguel took on the glove responsibility. Alfie slotted in up front, Mark and Duncan at the back. Then over the hills came Ömer, who had run, yes run, from London Bridge to be here. Such dedication deserves a reward of some sorts, his was to collapse and get his breath back before entering the arena. The first third was a tight affair with both Deptford and PFFC conceding, matters weren’t helped when Alfie pulled up with what turned out to be a ‘twisted groin’ ... enter Ömer.

The second third was nip and tuck, our defence holding firm under a few sorties from the men in black and blue. We enter an alliance with Deptford and managed to put two past AA, then slotted one past Deptford but conceded a softish one before the whistle blew. We entered the final third with the three teams deadlocked at 2-2-2. A final change between the sticks, with Rob defying doctor’s orders to allow Mark to perform admirably in midfield with Ömer up front and Miguel and Duncan outstanding at the back. We managed to sneak one past poor old Mark in the Deptford goal which set Aesthetico trailblazing towards us but we held out and finished the game with a ‘winning draw’.

Certainly one of the best 3sided games in a long while with commitment and tenacity shown by the men in red. Then a hasty journey to Beckenham A&E to get Alfie checked out. “He’ll be fine in two weeks” says the doctor, two days later, he’s playing indoor cricket for the school. Kids, eh!

Squad: Miguel, Mark, Duncan, Rob, Alfie, Ömer.
