Reds flourish in Spring ding-dong
PFFC 4 Deptford 3Sided FC 3 Aesthetico Athletico 6
April’s edition of the 3sided league was yet another great game. For once, Philosophy Football FC turned up with a full squad, including two debutants, Matthew and a friend of Duncan’s, and we found ourselves loaning out Matthew to Deptford to even up the teams. There has been a lack of players for most teams since the turn of the year, and the future set-up of the 3Sided league will certainly be up for discussion at the end of the season.
That aside, the game started furiously, with full-out attacks on all of the goals, and there seemed to be a consensus of making sure no team was behind at any stage, with the first half ending 1-1-1 and the second 3-3-4!
The third ‘third’ saw assaults on the Athletico goal from both the other teams, and two goals flew in early to keep Deptford’s nose in front. There was much to admire in this game, played on a real old-school quagmire of a pitch, reminiscent of the Regents Park days.
Duncan was fantastic at the back, reading the game and intercepting various through-balls the opposition tried to play. Ömer and Andy linked up superbly with a couple of choice one-twos in scoring against first Deptford and then Aesthetico Athletico. Good mates Andy and Hassan, who unfortunately had to miss this game due to playing eleven-a-side earlier, have been a real find and have helped rescue Philosophy’s season. In goal, Rob, turned back the years with a couple of athletic (at his age!) saves.
Yes, this was a great game played in an exceptional spirit from all concerned. With this result, Philosophy have moved up to second in the table, just one point behind new league leaders NXI. Could we move up one more step in the final two games?
Squad: Ömer, Duncan, Duncan’s mate, Matthew, Andy.
